His feelings overcame him; he fell upon his knees, looked up to heaven and utter aloud an earnest thanksgiving, in which he spoke of his wife, sick and helpless, and his children without bread, whom the timely present, from some unknown hand, would save from dying.

35. Yet, unfortunately, few attempts have been made to educate fathers in this resocialization process.

35. 然而,令人遗憾的是,很少有人试图给处于这个再社会化过程中的父亲提供教育。

36. For some time past it has been widely accepted that babies- and other creatures- learn to do things because certain acts lead to “rewards”; and there is no reason to doubt that this is true.

36. 过去一段时间以来人们普遍接受一种观点,即婴儿和其他生物学做某些动作,是因为做这些动作可以得到“奖赏”——没有理由怀疑这一点的正确性。

37. But it used also to be widely believed that effective rewards, at least in the early stages, had to be directly related to such basic physiological “drives” as thirst or hunger.

37. 过去人们也普遍相信“产生预期效果的奖赏”都与人的基本生理需要,如口渴,饥饿等直接相关,至少在婴儿时期如此。

38. It is argued by some writers that the transition to the father’s role, although difficult, is not nearly as great as the transition the wife must make to the mother’s role.

38. 有些作家认为,(丈夫向)父亲角色的转变尽管困难,但不如妻子必须向母亲角色转变那么大。

Dancer provides inspiration for all

By Zhao Xu (China Daily)

Dressed in black and ______[sit] in the corner of the room, Tai Lihua strikes an inconspicuous pose.

The one thing that would draw people's attention to the 22-year-old is the intent of her gaze, at the gestures of the sign-language interpreter beside her.

For some, the very idea of a deaf person attending a CPPCC group discussion seems incredible, but for Tai, one of the country's most acclaimed dancers, it was just another opportunity for the voice of her heart to be heard.

"I've come here representing not only myself, but also all of the ______[disable]," the delicate dancer said.

Deaf at the age of two as a result of medicine misuse, Tai overcame seemingly insurmountable hurdles in life to become a luminous presence on stage.

Her story never fails to move and to inspire. In fact, Tai had just returned from Miami two days ago, ______ a documentary film about her and her fellow members at the China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe received a standing ovation from the audience.

"The applause speaks for itself. The movie has touched a certain spot in people's hearts, a place where we harbor hope, longing and love," she said.

Indeed, Tai's road to success has been paved ______ love from parents and teachers, friends and fans. Now a celebrity, she feels she can never do enough to repay others for what she has.

She dedicated herself to helping the disabled because she understands their pain and shares their dreams.

"I see my life as imperfect perfection. And I would like all my disabled friends to see their life this way," Tai said.

"We are different, but everyone is intended to be different. You may be deaf, but you can touch the rhythm of music. You may be deaf, but you can feel the warmth of color."

That is why the movie was made - to spread the word to those who may not be able to see Tai dance, but who desperately need to hear the message.

Tai also considers herself as someone who is constantly moved by those around her.

"At the group dinner, I was talking to a delegate, a kind old man. I didn't realize he was disabled until he showed me his prosthetic leg," Tai said.

"He said he lost the real ______ in an explosion. But the way he mentioned it, very casually, it stayed with me."

Where should we register our son's hukou?

Hoping to register their newborn son's "hukou" in Beijing, a migrant couple took a local police station to court. Although they knew that ______ was little chance they could win the lawsuit, the couple said "We just want to know how the court will rule the case."

Like other migrant families in Beijing, if the father Zhang Yong wants to give their newborn son, Shuoshuo, a legal household registration record, he only has two choices: register their son's "hukou" at either of the couple's birthplaces, ______ buy the baby a Beijing "hukou" with tens of thousands of RMB.

Of course, neither of the two plans ______[satisfy] Zhang Yong and his wife.

The Chinese term "hukou" is not an easy word to explain to foreigners, but it matters to the livelihood of every Chinese. A hukou can refer to the registration of a family, since every household in the nation must have a registration record. Though only a piece of paper, it gives an individual the legal right to reside in a certain place, and comes with certain social benefits, ______ medical treatment, social welfare, housing, education and etc.

Later, Zhang Yong found that he might have a third choice, through which they can give their son a legal certification in Beijing without paying too much money. They decided to help their son get a Beijing hukou through a lawsuit.

Where can we register our son?

Zhang Yong was born in northeastern China's Anshan city, and his wife Wang came from a small town in north China's Hebei Province. In this case, according to relevant regulations, their son can only register his hukou in either of the parents' birthplaces. But Zhang Yong couldn't accept this.

Zhang has been working in Beijing for over five years, and in 2005 the couple bought a commercial apartment in Beijing. They even planed to take their parents to Beijing so the whole family can reunite. But if their son's hukou can't be registered in Beijing, the boy has to go to other cities for school in the future.

"It's unacceptable that we work in Beijing but have to leave our child in our hometown for his education."

What if they have the boy ______[go] to schools in Beijing?

If he wants to be enrolled in a school in Beijing, the family has to pay an extra fee to the school, which is called temporary studying fees (a kind of schooling fees only for migrant children). Although the amount of the fee has been ______[decrease] in recent years with the intervention of the Beijing municipal government, according to government rules, the fee adds up to 17,400 yuan for a kid to finish high school education.

They also need to give the school more money as sponsor fee, which is set by the school individually and is much higher the temporary studying fees.

Zhang Yong ______ his friend's son for an example. Each year, the boy needs to give his school an average of 10,000 yuan as sponsor fee. Zhang deduced that they should prepare over one hundred thousand yuan for their son before he enters college.
