41. It must be noted that learning must be done by a person himself.
42. A large number of people tend to live under the illusion that they had completed their education when they finished their schooling. Obviously, they seem to fail to take into account the basic fact that a person's education is a most important aspect of his life.
43. As for me, I'm in favor of the opinion that education is not completed with graduation, for the following reasons:
44. It is commonly accepted that no college or university can educate its students by the time they graduate.
45. Even the best possible graduate needs to continue learning before she or he becomes an educated person.
46. It is commonly thought that our society had dramatically changed by modern science and technology, and human had made extraordinary progress in knowledge and technology over the recent decades.
47. Now people in growing numbers are beginning to believe that learning new skills and knowledge contributes directly to enhancing their job opportunities or promotion opportunities.
48. An investigation shows that many older people express a strong desire to continue studying in university or college.
49. For the majority of people, reading or learning a new skill has become the focus of their lives and the source of their happiness and contentment after their retirement.
50. For people who want to adopt a healthy and meaningful life style, it is important to find time to learn certain new knowledge. Just as an old saying goes: it is never too late to learn.

I told her everything that had happened to me in Dr Webber’s secret brain-research Lab. out on the other side of Crystal Town. I showed her the photos I had   1   taken with a hidden micro-camera. I told her about my best friendPlummetwho had   2   with me. I told her how he was afraid to come to the police. She   3  again.

Don’t you w0rry, Mr. Serge. You’ve got nothing to   4  from us. If you can take us to this Research Lab, we will come with you   5   and close the place down. This Dr Webber sounds very   6  . Her w0rds were like music to my ears. I   7  with relief. Twenty minutes later, we were on a   8  boat, racing back across Piccadilly Lake, on our way back to the Research Lab, with six officers, all   9  with nerve guns.

The   10   of Dr Webber being shot with a nerve gun and arrested made me very   11  . but I was also frightened.   12   back to that place was the last thing I wanted to do. I suddenly felt very   13  . I lay down in the back of the boat and watched the paraliders (滑翔机)and balloons   14   by over head. They must have banned (禁止)mot0r vehicles from the London sky   15   I was away.

It was much m0re   16   up there. Better than the noisy jetcars and helicopters (直升飞机)that used to block out the   17 . My eyes closed and I fell asleep. I slept until I heard a voice   18   in my ear.

    Serge! Wake up!

It was Plummet, talking into my tiny micro-radio. He had been   19   me from the roof of a nearby tower-block.

      20 ! You’re in trouble!

There was great  excitement on  the planet of Venus this week. ________  the

first  time  Venusian scientists  managed  to land  a  satellite  on  the  planet

Earth,  and it has been  sending back  signals as well as.  photographs  ever

5       The  satellite  was  directed into  an  area known  ________  Manhattan  (named

after the great  Venusian  astronomer Prof. Manhattan, who first  discovered

it  with  his  telescope 20,000  light  years  ago).

Because  ________ excellent weather conditions  and extremely strong  signals,

Venusian scientists were able to get  valuable information as to the feasibility

10  of  a  manned  flying saucer landing on Earth. A press conference was held

at the  Venus  Institute of  Technology.

"We have come to the conclusion, based on  last week's  satellite  land-

ing, "Prof. Zog said, "that there is no life on Earth. "

"How do you  know this?"  the  science reporter  of the Venus Evening

15  Star asked.

"For one thing, Earth's surface in the area  of   Manhattan is composed

of solid concrete and nothing can grow there. For  another, the  atmosphere

is  filled  with carbon monoxide and other  deadly gases  and nobody could

possibly ________ this air and survive. "

20         "What does  this mean  as  far  as our  flying  saucer  program  is  concerned?"

"We shall have to take our own oxygen  with  us, which  means a  much

heavier flying saucer than we originally planned. "

"Are there any other hazards that you  discdvered in your studies? "

25        "________ a look  at  this  photo. You  see   this  dark  black  cloud  hovering

over  the  surface of  Earth? We call  this the Consolidated  Edison  Belt. We

don't  know  ________  it is made of, but  it  could  give  us a lot  of  trouble  and

we shall have to make further tests before we send a Venus Being there."

"Over here you will  notice  what  seems to be  a  river,  but  the  satellite

30  findings   indicate   it  is  polluted   and  the   water   is  unfit   to  drink.  This

means  We  shall  have to carry our own water,  which  will add even  greater

      weight to the  saucer. "

"Sir, what ara all those tiny black spots on the photographs? "

"We're  not  certain.  They seem  to be  metal  particles  that  move along

35   certain  paths. They emit  gases,  make   noise and  keep  crashing  into  each

other. There  are  so  many  of  these  paths  and so many metal particles that

it is impossible to land a flying saucer without its being smashed by one. "

"What are those stalagmite projections sticking up?"

"They're   some   type  of  granite  formations  that  give  ________ light at  night.

40   Prof. Glom has named  them  skyscrapers  since they seem to be scraping the

       skies. "

"If  all  you  say  is  true,  won't  this  set  back the  flying saucer program

       several years? "

"Yes, but we  shall proceed  as soon as  the Grubstart  gives us the added

45   funds."

"Prof .  Zog,  why  are  we  spending  billions  and  billions  of   zilches to

land a flying saucer on Earth when there is no life there? "

"Because if we  Venusians  can  learn  to breathe  in an  Earth  atmospherh

sphere, ________ we can live anywhere. "

Brazil advances to Women's Football World Cup Final

Brazil has reached the championship game of the Women's World Cup football tournament in China. VOA's Jim Stevenson reports from Hangzhou, where Brazil's 4-0 victory Thursday snapped a 51-game unbeaten streak held by the heavily favored United States.

Most coaches will say there is a risk-taking element in the campaign to win the Women's World Cup. Unfortunately for U.S. coach Greg Ryan,______________________ Ryan inserted veteran goalkeeper Brianna Scurry for the semifinal in place of Hope Solo. He also made clear before the game he wanted the referee to call early fouls on the hard-hitting Brazilians.

But the South Americans were on the scoreboard first in the 20th minute. U.S. defender Leslie Osborne headed an own goal past Scurry while trying to deflect a Brazilian corner kick. Then from long range in the 27th minute, Marta sent in a shot that caught Scurry off guard.

____________________________________. Two of those resulted in the expulsion of midfielder Shannon Boxx near the end of the half, leaving the U.S. women one player short for the rest of the game.

Cristiane added an easy 56th minute score. A 79th minute tap by Marta completed the stunning result. Ryan says he has no regrets.

"I am disappointed for my players because they have put so much into this," he said. "But in terms of me personally, this has never been about me. ______________________________________________________. So I feel good about what I have done with this team. And of course we will be second guessed."

Brazil is aiming for its first Women's World Cup title, and is already guaranteed its best finish after placing third in 1999. Brazilian coach Jorge Barcellos says desire has been just as important as talent in reaching the championship game.

"We can say nothing is impossible," he said. "That is what I am always telling to my players. I think that is also part of the reason we had success tonight. So for Brazil, it is a perfect victory, a perfect win today. And I would like to congratulate my players because they have a strong wish, a strong desire to win the match."

his larger wagers fell short.

As for fouls, it was the United States that received four yellow cards

This has always been about the team doing the best that they can, and me trying to put them in situations where they can be successful

Brazil will face defending champion Germany in the final Sunday in Shangahi. The United States and Norway will battle for third place earlier that day.
