unit14 的要点请自己划一下

Unit 13  Lesson 1  Success comes with a high EQ

Most students do an IQ test early in their school career. Even if they never see their results, they feel that their IQ is ____ determines how well they are going to do in life. When they see other students doing better than them, they usually believe that those students have a higher IQ and that there is nothing they can do ____[change] facts. However, new research into EQ suggests that success ____[be] not simply the result of a high IQ.

While your IQ tells you how intelligent you are, your EQ tells you how well you use your intelligence. Professor Salovey, ____ invented the term EQ, gives the following description:At work, it is IQ ____ gets you hired ____ it is EQ that gets you promoted.Supported by his academic research, Porfessor Salovey suggests that when predicting someone’s future success, their character, as ____[measure] by EQ tests, might actually matter ____ than their IQ.

Professor Salovey may be correct. For example, have you ever wondered why some of the smartest students in your class, who you think ____ good grades, sometime end up ____[fail] exams? Perhaps their failure is because ____ their low EQ. people are often ____[mistake] in thinking that those ____ high IQs always have high EQs as well. This association can exist, but it is just as possible for someone with a high IQ to have a low EQ.

____ is generally believed that people with high EQs are open to new ideas and have positive attitudes ____ life. They are also less likely to be troubled by problems. On the other hand , ____ is little doubt that people with low EQs often have problems ____[get] on with other people and ____ with difficult situations; thus they have a harder time ____[survive] in the life.

People generally believe that a person’s IQ is determined ____ birth. However, most social scientists agree that EQ has a lot to do ____ education. Some are trying to study the ____[possible] of improving a person’s EQ, especially in terms ____ “people skills”, such as understanding and communication.

Professor Mayer, recognized by many as a ____[lead] expert in the study of changes to people’s EQs, recently announced the results of a study ____ senior high school students. When normal students were introduced to students with disabilities, they found that, ____, the normal students were more willing to help people with difficulties .They also showed a better understanding of the disabled students’ feelings compared to students who had not been involved in the study. There was also an obvious change in the disabled students’ attitudes. They became more positive about life and more willing to try new things.

The results of studies such as these show that EQ is as important, if not more important than IQ. To get ahead in the world and ____ a happy successful life means ____[get] on with other people and being able to understand and react to situations in the best way possible. This requires a high EQ ------ the higher the ____[good]. And the fact ____ it might be possible to raise EQs means that schools need to make sure that their students are receiving the education they really need, and know that their futures are not ____[entire]determined by their IQs.

Into the Wild was written and directed by Sean Penn. It's an adaptation of the Jon Krakauer book by the same name that tells a story of Chris McCandless, a young man, who in the early 1990s after he graduated from college, _______ on a long, two-year, zigzagging voyage across the country that ended up in Alaska where he died apparently from starvation in August of 1992.

Now as played by Emile Hirsch, McCandless is _______ one of these seekers after truth, but he's also shown to be a very _______, friendly, outgoing, open-hearted young man.

He's not really fleeing from human _______, but as a quote from Lord Byron that Sean Penn plays at the beginning of the movie says "he loves not man the less, but nature more". And one of the ways that this love with nature's communicated really _______ in the movie is through the images. I can't really think of another feature film I've seen in a very long time that embraces the American _______ with such ardor and enthusiasm. The rhythm of the movie really depends on the other characters. It would just be a kind of a travelogue or a romantic avocation of nature if it didn't have these very particular individuals in it. One of most memorable is Vince Vaughn who plays this crazy wild man combine driver and grain _______ in South Dakota. Catherine Keener is just terrific as a woman who sort of also adopt him and Hal Holbrook is a _______man who's lost his own family who also takes Chris under his wing. And these relationships are as important to the moive, as the main character's search for solitude in his encounter with nature.
What's wonderful about Into the Wild is it has a real _______ of spirit, a real exuberance, a feeling of fresh air and sunshine and wildness.
